March 20, 2013 – Allen and Diane Lake
The definition of marriage in the United States hangs in the balance. On March 26th and 27th the Supreme Court will convene to rule on the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which protect the definition of marriage as solely between a man and a woman. If they are struck down then homosexual marriage would most likely be legalized on a federal level.
The Reformation Prayer Network has developed a prayer guide for these few days leading up to the hearings. We encourage you to read them, and pray with us as we battle in prayer for biblical marriage in our nation.
Supreme Court Prayer Guide – Day 1 | Regaining Our Voice
by Diane Lake
Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you halt and limp between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him! But if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word. (1 Kings 18:21, AMP)
By reading this, you are most likely a member of USRPN and already well aware of the urgent need for prayer targeting the upcoming Supreme Court cases regarding same sex marriage. No one really knows for sure how much intercession it takes to turn any one spiritual battle. I do, however, hear the Lord saying that He is calling for the whole nation to pray in this matter; this would mean all believers in the nation.
Most believers recognize from scripture that homosexuality is an abomination before the Lord. (Rom. 1:24-27) Since the world as a whole does not recognize the authority of scripture, this point becomes ineffective if used as our main focus for discussion. Our most effective position springs from the firm conviction of knowing that homosexuality is a choice. While this knowledge is rooted in scripture (see James 1:13-16), we need not necessarily quote from it (unless addressing fellow believers).
The speed with which recent momentum has swung in favor of same sex marriage is astonishing. This is due in large part to the fact that the world’s voice proclaiming that homosexuality is a condition of birth is very loud, while the voice of the church proclaiming that it is a choice is fairly quiet. If the church is to influence the nation and be effective in intercession, she must be convinced that homosexuality is a choice. Otherwise, the world is right, and these cases are indeed an equivalent to a civil or equal rights issue.
Once the church is confident in her stance that homosexuality is a choice, she can pray, speak, legislate—even turn a nation, for righteousness in this issue.
Prayer Points
1. Pray that all believers in the nation would rise up to pray in regard to this issue – that the Lord would not wonder that there were not enough intercessors. (Isa. 59:16)
2. Pray that the saints would not falter between two opinions on the issue of homosexuality as a choice vs. condition of birth and that they would find their voice. (See 1 Kings 18:20-24; James 1:13-16.)
3. Pray that the Supreme Court justices would receive a divine impartation of knowledge that homosexuality is a choice rather than a condition of birth, and rule from that position. (Prov. 21:1)
Action Point
Consider watching and sharing the video, Homosexuality and Political Correctness, which addresses the issue of choice vs. condition of birth.
